And especially we'd like to say thanks to Brooks and Kenny over at CEO-Indonesia. On to the last order of business.

One organization we've moved into is Tzu Chi, http://tw.tzuchi.org/ --a Taiwanese-based organization that is spectacular at what they do. They have a school building resolution. They are much more effective at putting these resources to use than we would have been in this regard... a ton of infrastructure in place that we simply didn't.

The second organization allows us to keep some of our funds in-house. Mi3, that is the Microfinance Investment Initiative (Inc.), http://www.microinvestmentinitiative.org/ is headed by John Yang Sammataro and is doing all the right things: they have tremendous grassroots support in the US and have made many successful microfinance loans over the past few years.

Thanks again, cheers!

CEO-Taiwan

Resolution

Hello again,

It's been an exciting year or so - and we'd like to thank everyone for all the help along the way! A huge thank you to Ming Liu of Tagdog (www.mytagdog.com) for his support and trust -- and also to Tim Gilday, our advisor, for his guidance.

We've been able to successfully raise funds for about 2 or 3 full-year scholarships. We're very proud of that and are extremely thankful to all of you who've donated or helped in any way. Here's the recent news: We've discovered that the transaction-type costs of our original plan (vocational computer training across the island) are rather large relative the number of students we'd be able to realistically fund. With funds for a class of 10 or so students, logistically our initial plan would make a lot of sense... but! we think this current size may be an irresponsible way to use our hard-earned resources.

Our goal all along has been to affect the largest amount of positive change possible in the realm of rural Taiwanese education. And with that in mind, we believe that our resources can best be utilized by donating to rebuild schools. This way we get a dollar-for-dollar impact without having any real intermediaries (as we would have with the transportation costs, tuition payment, and application process in the other plan).

Thanks again - and we'll have more details soon!

Glenn

Graeme

Our Partnership with TagDog!

We are excited to announce our partnership with Tagdog for the month of July!

If you're in the market for a cute and stuffed friend, there's no better time to check out Tagdog -- he's looking to become the most well-known dog on the internet.

Here's how you can help:

-For every tag of Tagdog on FACEBOOK in the month of July, we will be given 10 cents. Next year, Graeme will attend Stanford University, Glenn will attend Wesleyan University, and Brooks (CEO-Indonesia) will attend Boston College.

The most up-to-date plan for this coming year:

We will finance as many qualified teen Taiwanese scholars as our funds allow; they will be taking a year-long course at either the Lian Chen or Xue Chen Computer Centers, which will provide them with an international CISCO certification.

In subsequent years, will begin our micro-finance program by lending to the graduates of our program. For this inaugural year, we will simply be providing scholarships.

We're well on our way to our fundraising goal - but we still need a lot of help!

I'd like to give a big thank you to those of you who've donated already, we'll be sending you newsletter updates!

In other news - we're looking for plane tickets to Taiwan; we've promised in the mailers that 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the scholarships - and we will stand by that. However, if anyone (or any business) would like to donate 1 plane ticket, it would hugely helpful.

thanks!

GS & GC

glenn.stowell@gmail.com

graemeclements@gmail.com

Updated Progress & Plan

Hello all,

We've decided that the way we can be most effective for teens in Taiwan is to fund a vocational type education. As you are probably aware, over the past 25 or so years, Taiwan has established itself a global electronics manufacturing superpower. That production has raised the nation's G(ross) D(omestic) P(roduct), overall standard of living, and per capita income quite substantially in the past few years -- undoubtedly, all good things. However, to be able to compete for a job in the country, one must have a large amount of training. For most, that's not a problem. However, as is the case in many rural towns in the country, some students are not able to pay to continue their educations / further their training.

We (the folks here @ CEO) will be looking to help our students bridge that financial gap such that they will be able to improve their own lives, the lives of their family members, and be able to create change in their communities.

We will be working with the Gjun, Lian Chen, and Xue Chen Computer Training Centers across the island.

Our first round of applicants will be applying within the next few months (through their current schools). We will then decide on our final selections over the summer. Our students will then begin at the computer training centers in the fall of 2009.

Thanks again,

Cheers,

GS

GC

Checks made payable to CEO4Teens - Taiwan

Sent to 9 High Meadow Road, Hadley, MA 01035

Even the smallest contribution is a huge help.
